Graduate Admissions Project (GAP)

The Graduate Admissions Project has been underway since May 2015. Key information and event dates have been made available on the new project website here: http://www.gap.admin.cam.ac.uk/.

The purpose of this project is to improve the student journey through the application process. The first phase of the project will provide Graduate Admissions with a platform to support the online admissions process.

Why are we doing this?

The aim of the project is to review and improve the Graduate Admissions process, from the first point of contact with the applicant to the day they arrive in Cambridge. The project will improve the experience, efficiency and effectiveness of the entire Graduate Admissions process.

The current Graduate Application Form was introduced in 2004, and has undergone several major improvements including the introduction of self-service and electronic document management.

The decision was taken to investigate a complete revamp of both the underlying business process of Graduate Admissions, along with the technology used to support it.

What is the scope of the project?

Development of the new system will progress in phases, released where possible for Lent or Easter applicants, in the first instance, to allow users to acclimatise to the system before the busy Michaelmas term.

The different phases will include:

  • Development of the referee facing interface
  • new online application form, including a single submission process
  • new application management portal for departments and degree committees
